Market Situation

AI and automation technologies in manufacturing (Advanced Manufacturing) are a key growth driver for the Canadian economy. As the country’s second-largest industrial sector, manufacturing contributes around 9 % of GDP, directly employs 1.85 million people, and supports another 3.43 million jobs. In 2024, the sector generated roughly €140 billion in real GDP and exported goods worth about €315 billion. Digital manufacturing, smart factories, Industrial IoT, and connected systems are well established across industries, creating strong demand for innovative solutions.

Ontario and Québec are Canada’s industrial and technological hubs, together accounting for around 70 % of the country’s manufacturing output (Ontario 45 %, Québec 25 % in 2023). Both provinces have strong research and innovation infrastructure, as well as dense networks of companies and educational institutions closely connected to international supply chains.

By integrating technologies such as AI, robotics, industrial sensors, and the Internet of Things with traditional manufacturing processes, significant opportunities arise for German SMEs to contribute their expertise in digitalization, automation, and production technologies. Funding programs and tax incentives also make it easier for German firms to enter the market and implement projects in collaboration with Canadian partners. This makes Canada a particularly attractive environment for German SMEs to grow as long-term technology and innovation partners in manufacturing.
