The Canadian beer market offers promising opportunities, especially for Bavarian breweries and hop growers, which are characterised by their centuries-old brewing tradition, high-quality products and the Purity Law. Beer continues to be the most popular alcoholic beverage in Canada. While local craft beers are growing in popularity and traditional light beers are losing market share, Bavarian breweries can benefit from their reputation for authentic and flavourful beers. Ontario, as the most important province for beer production with a steadily growing number of breweries, offers access to a large consumer and trade network and also serves as an optimal starting point for exports, especially to the USA. The increasing popularity of canned beer due to lower transport costs, with a growing acceptance also among premium brands, represents an attractive opportunity for Bavarian breweries to deliver their products to Canada at low cost. Trade agreements such as CETA (Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement), which has been provisionally applied since September 2017, have led to a significant reduction or elimination of tariffs on many products and facilitate market access for European companies, especially Bavarian companies. CETA also protects European geographical indications, which is an advantage for Bavarian breweries that sell their products under protected designations of origin.

Ontario, particularly the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), offers an ideal platform to showcase Bavarian beers and capitalise on the strong German community and promotion of German culture with major events such as the Kitchener-Waterloo Oktoberfest (the largest Oktoberfest outside of Germany with over 700,000 visitors annually). The increasing demand for non-alcoholic beer opens up further market opportunities for innovative premium alternatives from Bavaria. The Ontario Hop Growers Association supports hop growers in the region and promotes the cultivation and use of local hop varieties, which enables collaborations with Bavarian hop growers. The Ontario Craft Brewers Association represents numerous independent breweries that are open to international partnerships and the use of high-quality ingredients.
