The Canadian German Chamber of Industry and Commerce is hosting a German digital business delegation on the topic “Photonics and Optics” from March 6 to 10, 2023.  

Canada has a long history within the photonics and optics field dating back to the 1960s with the invention of the first solid-state laser rangefinder. The industry has approximately 400 companies and is characterized by a rich corporate and research landscape that covers the whole value chain from developers to component manufacturers.

The industry has a strong base, so it is expected that the sector in Canada will have an average annual growth rate of 5.7% until 2027. The market is highly import-dependent. Between 2015 and 2019, Canada imported on average twice as many products or parts as it exported. Recently, the federal government announced it would allocate more than CAD 57 million for optics and photonics research. These conditions make Canada a worthwhile destination for a digital business delegation in the photonics and optics sector. 

The business delegation aims to learn more about the Canadian market and to build new partnerships with Canadian companies. It also includes the arrangement of individual B2B appointments.
