Celebration of 150 years of Canada, Toronto

May 30:  Together with the German Consulate in Toronto and Messe Düsseldorf (Canada), the Canadian German Chamber of Industry and Commerce celebrated 150 years of Canada at the beautiful event space of Ricarda’s Restaurant. 200 guests from Toronto’s business society attended the celebration and enjoyed a taste of Germany with typical Altbier and a selection of charcuterie and pretzels. The evening was supported and sponsored by Füchschen, Killepitsch and Kuehne + Nagel.


May 31: Representatives of the German Mining Network, including the Competence Centre for Mining and Mineral Resources at CGCIC, took part in a workshop to discuss the impact and implications of the EU directive on supply chain transparency for raw materials. The workshop was organized in collaboration with the Deutsche Industry and Handelskammer (DIHK) and the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi). June 13: Germany Trade & Invest and the Canadian German Chamber of Industry and Commerce held a conference and dinner reception on “Cleantech Cluster Opportunities in Eastern Germany” at the Malaparte. 60 participants from the Canadian renewable energy sector received valuable information on doing business in Eastern Germany. Farewell Reception for Ambassador Werner Wnendt & Thomas Lichtenberger, Toronto

June 15: The Canadian German Chamber hosted a  Farewell reception in honor of Werner Wnendt, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Canada and Thomas Lichtenberger, Board Member of the Canadian German Chamber and Chairman of the Governance and Nominating Committee. We are very grateful for Ambassador Wnendt’s and Mr. Lichtenberger’s commitment to the Canadian German Chamber in the past years and wish them all the best!


German business delegation visit from the security sector, Toronto, Ottawa

June 19-23: A German business delegation visited Toronto and Ottawa in order to explore the market potential for their proven security technologies and solutions and establish new business contacts. The program took place in the framework of the foreign market entry program initiated by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy. The Canadian German Chamber of Industry and Commerce also hosted a one-day conference on Security Technologies and Solutions on June 20, 2017 in Toronto where German and Canadian expert speakers shared their knowledge on the industry.


June 28-29: The Competence Centre for Mining and Mineral Resources co-organized a first German Canadian Workshop on Health, Safety, and Prevention in Mining, together with ISSA Mining (Germany) and MIRARCO Mining Innovation (Sudbury). The workshop presented an opportunity to evaluate best practices and benchmark frameworks for health and safety in both Germany and Canada. During a signing ceremony, a letter of Intent was endorsed between the Greater Region of Sudbury Development Corporation and the NRW Netzwerk Bergbauwirtschaft to officially kick off a cluster-to-cluster collaboration. New Chairman at the Canadian German Chamber of Industry and Commerce Inc., Toronto

June 15: On behalf of the board and the management of CGCIC, we congratulate our board member Thorsten Heins, President & CEO HMC Inc., being elected as the new Chairman of the CGCIC Board. Mr. Heins has been a board member with the Chamber since 2008 and succeeds Robert Hardt, President & CEO, Siemens Canada Ltd.
