2014-11-01 Canadian German Gala Ball

Under the distinguished patronage of H.E. Mr. Werner Wnendt, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Canada the Canadian German Chamber of Industry and Commerce Inc. (CGCIC) celebrated their annual Gala Ball on Saturday, November 1, 2014. CGCIC was pleased to welcome over 320 guests at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel Toronto for a remarkable evening of “Rock the Opera”.

To set the mood for this festive event, Ritz-Carlton’s driveway was turned into a display of luxurious German cars (kindly provided by Audi Canada, BMW Group Canada, and Porsche Cars Canada) and guests were greeted by a member of the Toronto Police Service Mounted Unit with her horse. Upstairs in the foyer of the Grand Ballroom, CGCIC’s President & CEO, Mr. Thomas Beck, and his wife as well as a uniformed Royal Canadian Mounted Police awaited as guests arrived to network in the sophisticated setting of the champagne reception. Once doors to the Grand Ballroom opened, the emcee for the night, Dianne Buckner (host of CBC Television’s hit reality show “Dragon’s Den”) warmed up the crowd and presented the evening program with humour and wit.

In addition to a delectable five course dinner, the silent auction and the raffle draw, CGCIC wowed their guests with a ladies’ spotlight where one lady at every table received a gift certificate to the Ritz-Carlton Hotel spa. Guests also enjoyed a wonderful performance by three young professionals from the Canadian Opera Company Ensemble Studio. While performing classic arias in a cappella, the three tenors filled the room with their powerful voices. At the end of the night, Parkside Drive took the stage and rocked it out with some classic rock songs.

Thank you to all our valuable sponsors and honoured guests. A special thanks to Mr. Robert Hardt, President & CEO of Siemens Canada, as the Canadian German Gala Ball Chair and the Title Sponsor, and Mr. Patrick Himmelheber, Investment Advisor of RBC Dominion Securities Inc., as part of the Gala Ball committee.
