Supporting the German federal government in its energy dialogue with Canada
The German Energiewende, often dubbed as energy transition, pursues ambitious goals in terms of greenhouse gas emission reductions, renewable energy production and energy efficiency improvements. Moreover, it reduces Germany’s dependency on fossil fuel imports and therefore its exposure to price and supply risks. Against this background, the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) is pursuing international energy policy cooperations, with the goal of building trusting and lasting energy relationships with partner countries.
In addition to Germany’s formalized energy partnerships, the high-level, yet non-formalized energy dialogue facilitates regular bilateral exchange between both governments and other institutions and stakeholders. Core of the dialogue are key energy policy issues as well as common challenges and opportunities. By fostering mutual learning, the energy dialogue aims to strengthen the energy transition, as well as effective energy policies and cooperation.
The Canadian German Chamber of Industry and Commerce (CGCIC), under the leadership of adelphi consult, are supporting the BMWi in their aim to foster energy policy exchange with Canada. Germany and Canada, both highly developed OECD countries, already enjoy excellent economic and political relationships. Moreover, they both have a large potential and dynamism in the expansion of renewable energy and improving energy efficiency. With the energy policy dialogue, Germany aims to intensify the exchange of relevant experience and explore new areas of collaboration.
The CGCIC is the local point of contact for Canadian stakeholders looking to engage in this energy dialogue. Within the framework of the energy dialogue, we organize energy policy events and expert workshops in Canada, co-organize high-level delegation trips from and to Canada, and support the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy in its strategic communication with Canadian energy policy stakeholders.
In addition to adelphi consult, the CGCIC is formally partnering with The Regulatory Assistance Project (RAP) and The Renewables Academy (RENAC) in the course of the energy dialogue.
